Why This Matters

The State of Music Education in Arizona

Music education is disappearing from too many Arizona classrooms. As schools face budget pressures, music and arts programs are often among the first opportunities reduced or eliminated—leaving students without access to instruments, instruction, and the creative experiences that can shape a lifetime.

For 15 years, International Jazz Day AZ Foundation has worked to help close that gap by connecting professional musicians, educators, schools, communities, and supporters to keep music accessible to Arizona’s young people.

The Impact on Arizona’s Music Educators

Arizona’s music educators are doing more with fewer resources. Many teachers are working with limited instruments, shrinking budgets, and fewer opportunities to bring professional musicians into the classroom. When we support music educators, we give them the tools, relationships, and community support they need to keep music alive for the next generation.

What Happens When Music Disappears

When music disappears from a school, students lose more than a class. They lose a place to discover creativity, discipline, confidence, teamwork, and belonging. For some young people, music becomes the pathway that keeps them engaged in school and connected to their community.

Music Changes Lives

Music gives young people a voice, a community, and a way to imagine what is possible. Access to music education can build confidence, discipline, creativity, and connection—skills that reach far beyond the classroom.

Our Response: Keeping Music Within Reach

For 15 years, International Jazz Day AZ Foundation has turned this belief into action. Through free music education, school programs, professional artist engagement, instruments, performances, and community collaborations, we work to make sure young people have opportunities to experience, learn, and perform music—regardless of their circumstances.
